Hillary Clinton enters Irish American Hall of Fame

Hillary Clinton is accepting an award inducting her to the Irish American Hall of Fame, for her role in the Irish peace process.

The ceremony in New York is also being attended by the Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams.

Clinton is being recognised for her commitment to the Irish peace process over the course of her career in public service.

As first lady with a role on the margins of the talks, Irish America magazine is commending her for her focus on empowering women including mothers and wives who had sons or husbands caught up in the troubles.

As New York Senator and Secretary of State she is also commended for keeping Northern Ireland a part of US foreign policy.

Gerry Adams is described as a notable guest at today’s event with around 300 Irish Americans are in attendance.

Minister for Arts Heather Humphreys will give a short address ahead of Clinton’s key note speech taking the place of minister for foreign affairs Charlie Flanagan.
