Second victim of man who allegedly raped Paudie McGahon 'may come forward'

Another victim of alleged sexual abuse at the hands of an IRA man is expected to come forward.

The development came after 40-year-old Louth man Paudie McGahon told a BBC Spotlight programme that he was raped by an IRA member in the 1990s and was later made to face a kangaroo court. Paudie McGahon was 17 at the time of the alleged rape.

Gardaí have confirmed a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions relating to the alleged sexual assault of two males in Co Louth in the 1990s.

Yesterday the Taoiseach and Tánaiste again called on Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams to answer questions about child sex abuse in the Republican movement and kangaroo courts.

Special correspondent with The Irish Independent Paul Williams said another man has indicated he will come forward with allegations similar to Paudie McGahon's.

"Another victim has indicated that he is prepared to come forward," he confirmed.

"He sat down with the gardaí last year as part of the Paudie McGahon investigation, and he told them what happened to him when he was much younger than Paudie McGahon at the hands of the same man.

"He is considering going public himself…That could create a momentum that could bring a lot more people out."
