Kenny claims '90% progress' on Programme for Government

The Taoiseach and Tánaiste are reporting "90% progress" on their commitments in the Programme for Government.

Enda Kenny and Joan Burton are holding a press conference to mark yesterday's four-year anniversary of the coalition.

The Taoiseach said job creation will remain his number one priority.

In a dig at Fianna Fáil, Mr Kenny also said mortgage distress is the most painful legacy and that the arsonists who set fire to our homes are now trying to offer advice on distinguishing the flames.

He launched a blistering attack on the Fianna Fáil leader, accusing Martin of deliberately trying to undermine the integrity of the Fennelly Commission.

Martin questioned the decision of Mr Justice Nial Fennelly to delay an interim report into the circumstances surrounding the departure of former Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan.

The retired Supreme Court Judge who is chairing a commission of investigation made the decision due to the current High Court action of Ian Bailey.

The Taoiseach said he deplores Micheál Martin questioning the independence of the Commission in such a way.

"I think that the comments made … were utterly disgraceful, and are beyond his remit to every extent," Kenny said.

"He has deliberately attempted to undermine the integrity and the independence of the Fennelly commission.

"He know it is illegal - it as an offence - for anyone involved in a commission to make any comment on that issue."
