The Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald has defended the decision not to legislate for surrogacy in new laws on adoption.

The Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald has defended the decision not to legislate for surrogacy in new laws on adoption.

Fitzgerald has said there has not yet been enough public consultation on some of the practical issues involved.

Yesterday her predecessor Alan Shatter lashed out at the failure to include surrogacy in the Children and Family Relationships Bill.

However, Fitzgerald told the Dáil the government simply is not ready to introduce the laws yet.
