Vandal smashes Limerick garda station windows

Gardaí are investigating an attack on a Garda station in Co Limerick this morning.

Three large windows at Cappamore Garda station were smashed at around 3am, local Garda Sergeant Helen Holden confirmed.

It is believed the suspect is a male juvenile who is living locally.

No one was injured in the attack.

The cost of replacing the three large windows at the front of the building could run into thousands of euro.

"Ordinarily there would have been some garda personnel inside the station at the time, but they would have finished up at around 2am this morning," Sgt Holden explained.

"There are three windows (damaged) in total. They are brand new double-glazed sash windows. A glass panel overhead the front door was also smashed."

Cappamore Garda station has been targeted previously. Windows at the rear of the station were smashed in an unrelated incident about five years ago.

A local woman said: "It was never a 24-hour Garda station, but with the overall Garda numbers in the South East Limerick area been cut in line with other parts, overall policing has not been as strong."
