University Hospital Limerick (UHL) has begun recruiting 23 extra nurses to ease the overcrowding crisis in the hospital's Emergency Department, according to Fine Gael TD Kieran O'Donnell.

However, Mary Fogarty, mid west regional spokeswoman, Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO), said the HSE has neither provided funding nor has it approved the 23 extra jobs.
