Funerals of two Kildare crash victims to take place today

The funerals of two of the young women killed in Tuesday's crash in Co Kildare are taking place in Carlow today.

Chermaine Carroll and Gemma Nolan, both from Carlow, will be laid to rest later.

The funeral of 20-year-old Chermaine from Dolmen Heights, Pollerton will take place at St Mary's Church in Bennekerry at 11am.

This afternoon, 19-year-old Gemma from Idrone Park, Tullow Road will be remembered at the Holy Family Church at Askea in Carlow, where Requiem Mass takes place at 2.

Their friends Niamh Doyle, also from Carlow, and Ashling Middleton, from Athy, will be laid to rest tomorrow.

All four young women, and the driver of the car, were friends who had attended Saint Leo’s College in Carlow.

Communications Officer with the Catholic Communications Office Brenda told Kfm Radio that all of the priests involved in these funerals would have the known the girls well.

"A lot of these priests would have seen the girls through First Communion, through Confirmation, would have been chaplains to them in college, and I often think it's the particularly difficult part of their job," she said.
