Weather warning issued for North West

Met Éireann has issued a wind warning for the North West today.

The weather forecaster is predicting winds ranging from 50-70kph across Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo - with gusts of up to 110kph later tonight.

The yellow alert, which came into effect at midnight, will remain in place until around 10pm.

Meanwhile, motorists are being advised to drive with care this morning due to wet road conditions particularly around Cork City, Galway City, Tralee, Kilkenny, Portlaoise, Limerick City and Tullamore.

A Status Orange Marine Weather Warning was also issued.

"Southwest to west winds will reach gale force for a time this morning on coasts from Rossan Point to Malin Head to Fair Head," Met Éireann stated.

"South to southwest gales or strong gales will develop later today on all coasts of Ireland and on the Irish Sea, veering westerly tonight and occasionally reaching storm force 10 on the north coast."
