President signs Water Services Bill into law

President Michael D Higgins has signed into law the Water Services Bill 2014.

The revised legislation passed through its final stages in the Seanad before Christmas, without any further amendments.

A number of Oireachtas members had asked Mr Higgins not to sign the bill into law and asked hime to refer it to the Council of State.

A statement today said: "President Michael D. Higgins, having given careful consideration to all aspects of the Bill and the submissions he received, today signed the Water Services Bill 2014".
