A man, arrested in Co Clare yesterday after a water meter installer was threatened with a gun, has today been released without charge.

The man, aged in his 50s, had been held at Ennis Garda Station following the alleged incident in Clarecastle yesterday morning.

A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

At around 9.20am yesterday, gardaí were called to a house at Key Road, Clarecastle where workers had arrived to install an Irish Water meter.

It is alleged that the worker had a rifle pointed at him by a local resident. No shots were fired and no one was injured in the incident.
