Taoiseach facing water protestors at Cork jobs announcement

An anti-water charges protest will take place outside a retail park in Cork this morning where the Taoiseach is set to make a jobs announcement.

The protest is being organised by the We Won't Pay Campaign.

Last night Enda Kenny told the Dáil that the coalition listened to the voice of the people and acted on what it heard.

But the organisers of today's protest say they are unhappy with the new measures on water charges.

Spokesperson for the campaign, Councillor Mick Barry of the Socialist Party, said they want them to be abolished altogether.

"Enda Kenny failed to abolish the water charge - the announcement in the Dáil was concession after concession, but he didn't make the most important [one] and abolish the charge."

"In that sense, he hasn't listened … we already pay for water. We pay for water through our taxes … we're not mugs. We're not going to pay for it twice."
