Recession sees over 10% raise in Irish child poverty rate
Ireland's child poverty rate has risen more than 10% during the recession.
A new report from UNICEF shows that between 2008 and 2012 there were 130,000 more poor children in Ireland, with the rate of child poverty jumping to almost 29%.
It added 15-24 year olds were hit especially hard, with Ireland ranking 14th out of 41 countries in a league table measuring the number of those in that age group who are not in education, employment or training.
The UNICEF study also found that Irish families experienced additional stress, had a lower overall satisfaction with life and lost an equivalent of ten years of income progress.
