Truckers call off protest threat

Truckers have called off the threat of a further protest after they were granted a meeting to air their grievances on the rate of road tax they pay.

On Monday, members of the Irish Road Haulage Association staged a protest at Dublin port, blockading around 500 trucks.

The group says the rate they pay is more than six times the rate of their Northern Irish and British competitors.

Representatives from the IRHA will meet with the Ministers for Finance, Transport and Environment in due course.
