A 23-year-old man has been charged in connection with an arson attack on a house in Waterford city, which has left two children with severe burns.

A 23-year-old man has been charged in connection with an arson attack on a house in Waterford city, which has left two children with severe burns.

11-year-old Roisin Halligan and her one-year-old cousin, Lexi Halligan were injured when a petrol bomb was thrown through one of the window's of her grandmother's home in Ardmore Park, Ballybeg at around 9.20pm on Thursday night.

A fire started and their three-month-old cousin - who was asleep upstairs - was also treated for smoke inhalation, but has since been discharged from hospital.

Investigating officers arrested a 23-year-old man a short time after the incident.

He has since been charged and is due to appear before Waterford District Court, at 1am this afternoon.
