Rory O'Neill and Anna Nolan to help launch 'coming out' video

Six well-known people feature in a new video, explaining what happened when they came out to family and friends.

It is being launched this morning ahead of National Coming Out Day on October 11.

The video features six people talking to their younger selves, giving themselves advice on how to handle the process of coming out and talking about what they may or may not have done differently.

The video features Rory O’Neill (aka Panti), John Lyons TD, Senator Katherine Zappone, and Anna Nolan, broadcaster.

Coordinator of the LGBT helpline Paula Fagan said the idea behind the video was to raise awareness of struggles people go through to come out.

"The video shows very positive experiences people have had from loved ones, from family and friends," she said.

"We're highlighting the struggles people face, but also the potential positives and supports that are out there for people."
