IMO calls on Government to extend the medical card system on income grounds

The Irish Medical Organisation has said the Government should extend the medical card system on income grounds after a leaked report from an expert group said it is not possible to allocate the cards on the basis of medical conditions.

The group was unable to devise suitable criteria, despite examining a wide variety of options that placed the patient at the centre of consideration.
