Media to be summoned to banking inquiry

Media organisations could be called before the banking inquiry, it emerged today.
The inquiry has agreed its terms of reference, which will now have to be cleared by lawyers before going to the two Committees on Procedures and Privilege and be voted on in the Dáil and Seanad.
It means the inquiry is likely to formerly get underway by the end of October.
Committee Chairman Ciaran Lynch said senior editors and board members of media organisations could be called as witnesses.
"Consideration was given this morning with regard to where the media was placed with regard to the crisis as it was developing - particularly in relation to the property," he said.
"As we know, there was a lot of engagement around the property market, with the print media particularly, around that time."
