Phil Hogan set for EU agriculture job as names submitted for commission seats
Ireland's EU Commissioner, Phil Hogan, has been included on a list of nominees for a position in the new Commission.
It comes amid increasing speculation that Mr Hogan is set to take the agriculture job in the next administration. Mr Juncker intends to announce who gets what portfolio mid-next week.
Phil Hogan is one of the names that President-elect Jean-Claude Juncker has sent to the Italian Prime Minister, in his capacity as President of the Council.
The 28 seats in the commission are allocated, one to each member state, and the President assigns portfolios in a manner similar to the national cabinet ministerial system.
The Council has to now agree to the list, after which it'll be published in the EU's Statute Book.
