Cancer patient slams hospital stay as 'treatment for a dog'

A cancer patient, who was reportedly kept on a trolley in a Dublin hospital store room for three nights says the experience was like being treated like a dog.

According to the Irish Daily Mirror, 27-year-old Charlene Lynch, who needed surgery on her foot, was admitted to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown on Friday.

But instead of being sent to a post op recovery ward after the procedure, she was put on a trolley in a storage room due to a shortage of beds.

The young mother, who has Hodgkins Lymphoma, was discharged yesterday.

She claimed she was given a curtain to use as bedding, and was not offered anything to eat.

A spokeswoman for Connolly Hospital said they could not comment on individual cases, but added: “Patients may be required to fast post and pre-surgery.”
