Department of Justice says Vodafone surveillance release compromises national security

The Department of Justice has confirmed that it advised Vodafone publishing details of data requested by the Gardaí and other Irish authorities might compromise national security and hinder the investigation of serious criminal activity.

Vodafone revealed the surveillance practices of governments in the 29 countries it operates in today, but said it was prevented from disclosing details of data surveillance in Ireland.

Vodafone added its customers have a right to privacy which it wants to protect, however that in every country it operates in they have to abide by domestic laws which require them to disclose customer information to law enforcement authorities.
