A new study on the rental sector is to focus on finding ways to stabilise rents and increase housing supply.

The private rental sector doubled in size between 2006 and 2011, with one in five families now living in a rented home.

Rents in urban areas are increasing faster than inflation, especially in Dublin where there has been a year-on-year increase of 7.6%.

Director of The Private Rental Tenancies Board Anne Marie Caulfield full study would be completed by August.
