Most learner drivers breaking rules - survey

The majority of learner drivers are not always accompanied by a fully licensed driver as is legally required, according to a new survey.

The study, carried out by eFlow, also found that 40% of learners fail to display an L-plate.

eFlow is now calling on the government to consider introducing mandatory driving lessons in secondary schools across Ireland.

Simon McBeth from eFlow says the results of the survey are worrying.

"The survey showed that over 62% of learner drivers said that they go out without a fully-licensed driver accompanying them - which is incredibly dangerous considering they're not qualified to drive in the first place and there's nobody in the car helping them along the way," he said.

"So the chance of accident is a lot bigger in that circumstance."
