Survey finds 'high levels of unmet need' for stroke survivors after return to work
Less than half of people who suffered a stroke returned to work afterwards, according to a new survey of stroke survivors.
Up to 30,000 Irish people are living with the effects of a stroke, and a new report by the Royal College of Surgeons analysed how they are reintegrating into society.
It found 60% of survivors said their finances were affected by the stroke, and that emotional distress and fatigue were the most common problems.
A Senior Lecturer at the College’s School of Physiotherapy, Dr Francis Horgan, says they found many stroke survivors are not having their emotional needs met.
