Safe Ireland is calling domestic violence against women to be dealt with at Cabinet level, after a new EU report confirmed 1-in-4 Irish women suffers violence.

Ireland has the poorest reporting rate, with 70% of Irish women saying they do not contact authorities after serious abuse.

A report of 28 EU countries also found 1-in-3 Irish women have experienced psychological violence from a partner.

The CEO of Safe Ireland, Sharon O’Halloran, said something must be done by the Government.
