Bord Gáis to increase electricity prices

Electricity prices at Bord Gais are going up by around 51 cent a week from March 1.

The company said their winter price freeze is coming to an end, resulting in a 2.2% increase.

The company claims the increase is in line with other providers, but that it waited until after the winter rush to introduce it.

Bord Gáis is blaming outside factors such as the weakened euro and changes in wholesale energy costs.

Over the course of the year, prices will increase by about €2 for the average customer.
