Motorists urged to take care as flood warning issued

As thousands take to the roads for Christmas today, the Road Safety Authority is warning motorists to take extra care with more bad weather expected.

Met Éireann has issued a Status Orange warning, with gales of up to 120 kilometres per hour due to affect exposed areas.

The high winds and heavy rain are also bringing the possibility of spot flooding.

"The rain that's coming with the system is actually very heavy, so we could get spot flooding anywhere," said Met Éireann forecaster Joan Blackburn.

"There's an enhanced risk in the coastal counties … particularly so at high tide, but really at any stage during the day."
