Woman found dead in Mayo named locally

A post mortem is taking place this afternoon on the body of a woman who was found in a house in Co. Mayo yesterday.

She has been named locally as 28-year-old Sarah Staunton.

The body of the mother of two was discovered in a house in the rural area of Portagh about three miles from Balla at midday yesterday.

A man in his early twenties was last night arrested in the Castlebar area, in connection with her death.

Local Councillor Michael Kilcoyne says the community is devastated by what has happened.
