Grief-stricken Cork family calls for new police guidelines

A coroner in the UK has called for national police guidelines to be reviewed following an inquest into a crash which claimed the lives of two Cork family members last July.

The head-on crash happened after a suicidal taxi driver drove into the Twomey family’s car on the final day of their holiday in Devon claiming the lives of Elbar Twomey's husband, son, and unborn daughter, as well as that of the taxi driver Marek Wojciechowski.

The coroner was referring to guidelines regarding how police deal with emotional, distressed and vulnerable individuals.
