The Naval Vessel, the LE Ciara, has detained an Irish-registered, fishing vessel off the Waterford coast for allegedly breaching fishing regulations.

The Naval Vessel, the LE Ciara, has detained an Irish-registered, fishing vessel off the Waterford coast for allegedly breaching fishing regulations.

The vessel was detained around 20 nautical miles south of the Waterford Coast at around 1pm this afternoon.

It has now hauled its nets and is currently under escort to Cobh in Co Cork where it is expected to arrive at 6pm this evening.

It will then be handed over to Gardaí.

The detention is the 12th one made by the Naval Service this year following 901 boardings.
