Dublin swans rescued after diesel spill

The DSPCA has said it is very worried for swans and other wildlife that have been affected by a diesel spill on the north side of Dublin.

A number of birds have been moved from the Stardust Memorial Park in Coolock over fears they may even have swallowed some of the fuel.

Dublin City Council says the spill has been contained and poses no further risk.

Gillian Bird from the DSPCA says they are washing the swans.

"They're in very good conditions; we obviously caught them in an early stage," he said.

"But we are obviously having to wash the animals - which can be quite stressful - and hoping they haven't swallowed too much of the diesel, because that's the main damaging thing," she added.
