A substance used to execute death row convicts in the US has been taken from a Veterinary Clinic in Co Kildare.

"Release", which contains the powerful sedative pentobarbital, was stolen during a robbery last Tuesday.

It is contained in a 100ml clear glass bottle with an orange and white label, and Gardaí are appealing to anyone who knows where it is to contact them.

The Irish Medicines Board is advising anyone who may have consumed the poison to seek immediate medical assistance.
