Government receives reports from Roma children cases

The Minister for Children has received the reports from the HSE about two separate cases involving the removal of Roma children from their families.

Frances Fitzgerald says she immediately forwarded the reports on to the Ombudsman for Children Emily Logan for an independent investigation.

However, Fitzgerald has not released any details about the content of the reports.

The Minister for Justice Alan Shatter is also expecting two reports from the Gardaí on their involvement in the cases.

Last month, a 7-year-old girl was removed from her family in Dublin and a 2-year-old boy was removed from his parents in Athlone, because of concerns about their identities.

Both children were returned home following DNA tests.
