Two numbers allegedly linked to €2.28m 'tiger' kidnapping belonged to two defendants, court hears

The jury in the trial of four men accused of kidnapping a Securicor worker and his family before robbing €2.28m has been told that two numbers allegedly linked to the crime belonged to two defendants.

Jason Kavanagh (aged 39) of Corduff Avenue, Blanchardstown, Dublin, Christopher Corcoran (aged 66) of Bayside Boulevard North, Sutton, Dublin Mark Farrelly (aged 42) of Moatview Court, Priorswood, Coolock, Dublin and Alan Costello (aged 50) of Cromcastle Road, Coolock pleaded not guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to five charges each.

They are accused of falsely imprisoning Paul Richardson at Ashcroft, Raheny, Dublin on the night of March 13 and 14, 2005, and of falsely imprisoning Marie, Ian and Kevin Richardson on the same dates.

The four accused are also charged with robbery of €2.28m in cash from Paul Richardson and Securicor Security Services Ireland Ltd..

Dominic McGinn SC, prosecuting, read statements into the court record given by Alan Costello’s father Patrick Costello Snr and his brother Patrick Costello.

Both men identified a number in their mobile phone address book as belonging to the accused.

The number has previously been listed as the “pink phone” in a chart of phones suspected as being used by the gang during the tiger kidnapping.

Mr McGinn also read a statement allegedly given by Keith Farrelly, a brother of the accused, to gardaí in which Mr Farrelly identified a number previously listed as “grey phone” in the same chart as belonging to his brother.

Mr Farrelly denied that he knew two other people named Mark and said he wouldn’t know which number belonged to his brother Mark.

The trial continues before Judge Martin Nolan and a jury of nine men and three women.
