Senator admits to change of mind on polling day

Wexford Fine Gael Senator Michael Darcy has admitted that he changed his mind on how to vote in the Seanad referendum on polling day.
Senator Darcy was a lone voice among his Fine Gael colleagues in the Seanad in advocating a yes vote to abolish it.
However he has admitted that he changed his mind because of the way his party ran the campaign.
"I didn't participate in the campaign out of respect for the other members of my party in the Seanad so I chose not to participate I said I was voting yes," he said.
"I changed my mind like 20% of the electorate on the day of the 40% who voted."
