Quinn: Senators do a huge amount of work

A prominent Senator has claimed that members of the Seanad are to blame for the lack of publicity given to their work.

Welcoming the results of the weekend's referendum Fergal Quinn admitted that the public perception of the Upper House isn't boosted by its Senators.

Normal Dáil business will be suspended tomorrow to discuss Seanad reform in the wake of the people's decision to retain it.

Fergal Quinn claims the Seanad has its uses, even if it's not always obvious to voters.

He said: "You take the insolvency legislation that went through, you take some other pieces of legislation that went through in recent time, I think the Seanad do a huge amount and have done a huge amount.

"It doesn't get the publicity but that's probably our own fault."
