Explosives and ammunition found outside Limerick

Explosive materials, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, and a gun, have been discovered in woods outside Limerick City, it has emerged.

The weapons cache was discovered by a member of the public last night.

A man out walking his dog at around 8pm came across the weapons at Glenagross Woods, Meelick, located just over the border into Clare.

An army bomb disposal team was deployed from Cork to make the wooded area safe before further searches took place.

Garda searches are ongoing this evening.
