Grim discovery of human remains on Dublin mountain

Skeletal remains found in the Dublin mountains yesterday evening have now been moved from the scene.

The decomposed remains were found by a member of the public out walking at Kilakee Mountain yesterday evening.

The Deputy State Pathologist Dr Michael Curtis and a forensic anthropologist attended the scene this afternoon, and the remains have now been taken to the State Mortuary.

Gardaí said no further information will be available before a post-mortem is completed.

The community of Rathfarnham in Dublin is said to be 'shaken' today after the discovery.

Local Fine Gael Councillor Anne-Marie Dermody has been telling 98FM in Dublin that the grim discovery has had an unsettling affect on the community.

"Even though it's kind of four or five miles from where you're living, it's still within our community and it still shakes everybody," she said.

"There's a fear factor attached to it - it's quiet, it's remote - I can see how it could happen … if it was the case that you wanted to dump a body."
