Judge refuses bail for man in Glasnevin shooting case

A 31-year-old man has appeared in court on crutches in connection with a shooting that has left a Dublin man in a coma.

Thomas Ryan of McKee Park, Cabra, has been remanded in custody to appear in court this day week having allegedly been caught red handed near the incident at Glasnevin Avenue last Monday.

51-year-old Charlie O’Neill from Ballymun remains in intensive care in the Mater hospital.

Today wearing a grey tracksuit, Thomas Ryan appeared in court on crutches.

Garda Cathal Connolly gave evidence the 31-year-old made no reply when charged yesterday evening with unlawful possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life at Glasnevin Avenue.

Objecting to bail the detective said it is alleged Ryan accidentally shot himself in the leg before discharging a second round at the injured party and fleeing down a laneway where he collapsed and was found by gardaí.

Judge Alan Mitchell noted the contention that Thomas Ryan was "effectively caught red-handed" and refused bail on grounds he may be a flight risk.
