Former hurling star Storey to join Wexford council

Former Wexford hurling legend Martin Storey is set to join Wexford County Council.

Storey, who captained Wexford's All-Ireland winning side in 1996, is being co-opted to replace the late councillor Pat Cody, who died last month.

He will take up the appointment next month and hold the seat until the next local elections in May.

Storey told South East Radio he has big shoes to fill.

It is a very big leap into the unknown," he said. "I would have been friendly with Pat - I mean, I would have canvassed with Pat Cody."

"I have very big shoes to fill, I know that, which will always keep me going, because Pat was very active, and he was very good."
