Family of Jean McConville to sue PSNI and British government

The family of one of the so-called "disappeared" Jean McConville, is suing the PSNI and the British Ministry of Defence.

The mother of 10 was murdered and secretly buried by the IRA after being abducted from west Belfast in 1972 on suspicion of being an informant.

Her remains were eventually discovered in 2003 on a beach in county Louth.

Mrs McConville's family is launching the civil action over alleged failures in the handling of the case.

Confirmation of the legal proceedings coincides with the tenth anniversary of the discovery of her remains.
