High Court to rule on woman's right to home birth

The High Court is to rule later on whether a woman can give birth to her second child at home.

Aja Teehan, a university lecturer from Kilkenny, claims the HSE’s refusal to facilitate the birth breaches her family rights.

The HSE said the fact that she had her first child by caesarean section makes her higher risk.

The HSE’s lawyers say the policy is rational and based on medical evidence.
