Man dies in Monaghan crash

A man has died following a collision in Co Monaghan earlier today.

The incident - involving a car and a truck - happened at Mount Lodge Demesne on the main Rockcorry to Shercock Road at approximately 5pm.

The elderly male driver of the car - who was the only occupant - was fatally injured. His body was removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for a post mortem examination.

The male driver and male passenger of the truck were uninjured.

The road is closed as gardai carry out an investigation and it is expected to remain closed until tomorrow morning.

Gardaí at Carrickmacross are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
