A three-year-old boy has been airlifted to hospital following a serious collision in Cork earlier this evening.

A three-year-old boy has been airlifted to hospital following a serious collision in Cork earlier this evening.

The incident happened at approximately 6.30pm at Barryroe, on the Clonakilty to Timoleague Road when a car struck the toddler.

He was seriously injured and has been transferred to Crumlin Children's Hospital in Dublin by air ambulance.

The road is closed to allow a forensic collision examination and diversions are in place.

Gardaí at Bandon are appealing for any witnesses to come forward
