Wealth divide in Dublin affects special education, report shows

Children in wealthier areas of Dublin get more special education than those in more disadvantaged areas, a new study by the Department of Education shows.

It found that schools in areas like Terenure and Rathfarnam get an hour of resource teaching for every six-and-a-half children, while some schools in the city's north side receive one hour for every nine children.

Education Minister Ruairi Quinn has pledged to revamp the system so that children can receive assistance based on their own needs, rather than what their parents can afford.
