Over €5m worth of drugs have been confiscated in separate seizures over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Two men were arrested on Saturday morning after 60 kgs of herbal cannabis worth an approximate street value of €1.2m was found hidden in a shipment of tiles at Rosslare Europort.

One of the two men arrested by Gardaí and Customs Officers has been charged in relation to the incident and he will appear before a special sitting of Gorey District Court later this morning.

The second man has been released without charge and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Yesterday, a sniffer dog named Max helped uncover a kilogram of cannabis at Cork Airport .

The drug had been swallowed in pellet form by a passenger off a flight from Spain.

The man, who is in his 40s, was taken to hospital by the Gardaí where the drugs were passed under medical supervision.

He was arrested and is being questioned at Togher Garda Station.

A Belgian national has also been charged with importing controlled drugs into Ireland after a massive heroin seizure at Rosslare Eurport.

Harm Kort from Hanikan was brought before a special sitting of Gorey District Court yesterday afternoon.

The 63-year-old was arrested when customs officers at the Wexford Port discovered €1.5m worth of heroin.

He has been remanded in custody to Cloverhill Prison in Dublin.

And in Meath, two men are being held in Kells Garda Station when 120kg of cannabis herb was found at a house in Oldcastle.
