Numbers jailed for failing to pay small fines rises

The number of people being sent to jail for failing to pay small court fines has increased by 25% in just two years.

According to figures obtained by the Sunday Independent newspaper, the statistics show a significant rise in the numbers of people who are being locked behind bars because they cannot afford to pay the charge.
