Military police and gardaĂ­ have launched an investigation after the death of a soldier at a barracks in Dublin.

32-year-old Private Patrick 'Paddy' Conlon fell from a height in McKee Barracks, in the early hours of this morning, in what is being described as a tragic accident.

Private Conlon was based in the 28th Infantry Battalion, Co Donegal with an address at Cooloney, Co Sligo.

He was pronounced dead in the Mater Hospital at 2.10am this morning.

Minister Alan Shatter has extended his condolences to his parents, his partner Louise, his brothers Michael and Daragh and his colleagues based in Donegal.
