Four arrested in Grand Canal murder investigation

Four people have been arrested by Gardaí investigating the murder of a young man at Grand Canal Place in Dublin earlier this month.

A man and three women - aged from their mid thirties to forties - are being questioned at Pearse Street, Kilmainham and Kevin Street Garda stations.

27-year-old Michael Kelly was shot in the chest as he walked along an area known locally as the Dry Canal last Monday morning.

Two women raised the alarm after stumbling upon the dying man but efforts to save him failed and he died at the scene.

The gunman made his escape in getaway car that was waiting nearby and was later found in Rialto.

Kelly was well-known to Gardaí, but he was not considered a prominent figure gangland crime. Detectives believe he may have been killed over a drugs feud.
