The Seanad has voted to hold a referendum to abolish itself by 33 votes to 25.

The Seanad has voted to hold a referendum to abolish itself by 33 votes to 25.

Cathaoirleach of the Seanad Paddy Bourke, announced the results of the vote by saying "the question is carried - it's now over to the people."
