Increase in passenger numbers at Shannon Airport

Passenger numbers are on the rise at Shannon Airport - with figures up 8% for the month of June.

The amount of people who flew through the airport grew from just under 150,000 last year to more 160,000 this year.

The number of US passengers has seen the biggest increase at 38%.

The jump is being attributed to the new United Airlines Chicago service which began on June 6 and a Philadelphia service with US Airways which started operating on May 22.
